Downstream Research believes in quality, in-depth research to solve complex water rights issues and uncover the mysteries of property use. Much of the water rights processes in the state of Montana and throughout the arid west are based on the historical use of the property. We use technical mapping, database management skills, research narratives, and the processing of state agency forms to assist our clientele. Furthermore, documenting a property’s history can be invaluable moving forward in the future.
Using his diverse background, president and founder, Ben Davis has the knowledge base to not only provide expert research and technical assistance, but will also educate you about your property and the resources which it holds. Ben’s experience is far-reaching; ranging from The Department of Natural Resources and Conservation as a Water Resource Adjudication Specialist, to teaching at Montana State University. Ben holds a BA and MA in History from Montana State University, each concentrated on the history of the American West and Environmental History. Ben also completed class work in a post graduate certification program from the University of Denver in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
Ben loves the natural environment and history that the inter-mountain west provides and is enthusiastically devoted to assisting the public with the complicated property processes. When Ben is not working, he can be found trying to keep up with his wife and two young boys, occasionally catching a fish, or exploring this vast area we all call home.
